  • The eligibility criteria includes the following: Full-time Home/EU Research Students as follows: Students in receipt of grants from the University Research Fund; those funded by Schools from HEFCE research allocations (should be granted as a minimum the standard LJMU Research Student stipend (£13863 in 2014/15) plus costs of the research project.) and those funded by external sponsors and who, exceptionally, are in receipt of a grant that does not cover tuition fees. Research Assistants: those employed on 3-year contracts or on 2-year contracts with possibility of renewal that are expected to register FULLTIME for a research degree (MPhil/PhD). Research Students in Difficulties: research students whose grants are terminated before completion of study for reasons other than the quality of the work undertaken. This results in either withdrawal or a change to part-time work with an extension of the completion date. Students on MRes Programmes: home/EU full-time MRes students funded from HEFCE research funding allocations and granted as a minimum the standard LJMU research student stipend, in addition to other research costs. Applications in this category will be eligible only where a clear case is made that the MRes registration is intended as the formalisation of a programme of training fulfilling the first year of a programme designed for direct registration for PhD. Non-EU International Research Students: these are expected to be self-funding or to have fees paid by a sponsor. However, research students able to acquire grant aid, which does not cover fees, may compete for Fee Waivers or part-Waivers. In exceptional cases research studentships funded by HEFCE (QR) or the University's Research Fund could be considered for Fee Waivers. University staffs who wish to register for PART-TIME research awards (MPhil/PhD) are also eligible. Writing-up students and other home/EU Research students who are not supported by any grants are not eligible.
