There are two disciplines available to qualify you as either a Navigating (Deck) Officer or an Engineer Officer

Navigating (Deck) Officers are responsible for the ship’s navigation from port to port and the safe handling of the cargo - which could be anything from passengers to containers or perhaps a giant oil tanker carrying the equivalent of 2 million barrels of crude oil.

Engineering Officers are responsible for the care and maintenance of, a multimillion pound ship with its engine, machinery and complex technological systems. If you are fascinated by the why’s and how of engineering this is the course for you!

During your course you will be using the latest, state of the art t echnology, and at the same time, for entrants with “A” levels or Scottish Highers, you can earn a degree based qualification in your chosen discipline as well as obtaining internationally recognised professional seafaring qualifications.

There a re also courses for those entrants who have good GCSE or equivalent qualifications which will give you an HNC/HND and the same professional seafaring qualifications.

Your chosen course will involve shore based college/university study and pl enty of practical training at sea. During the course you will be sponsored by a shipping company or training organisation which will arrange your college/university study and sea training.
